“Some one has a case of the Mondays.”

All your baseSo on my way to work my roommate and co-worker tells me that he heard a little birdy say that a huge portion of our company got sold to another company. He then goes on to say that an e-mail went out over the weekend about it and that we have an all staff meeting this morning about it. HELLO!!! Wha!? When I get to work I see said e-mail and then get another e-mail from my immediate supervisor for a conference call prior to the all staff meeting. I’m sure to all of you this sounds very office space-ish and thats exactly how I feel right now. I definately have a case of the “Mondays”.

So this conference call before the big all staff meeting turns out to be with every one who is being “sold” to the new company along with the rest of the section of the company. So as it turns out I’m part of the cattle up on the auction block. I guess I become a GS employee  some time next month and come Feb. we are owned by our new owner. This is either a huge blessing or a huge bane. Hard to tell so far. Lets hope the prior. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do and a lot of stuff to go through in the next month or so. If you know me, bear with me please. More to come.

All our base are belong to them!

Whats up with the Wii?

Ok so I know I seem to be pretty single minded about things lately but honestly I dont care and you all are just going to have to deal with it. In the midest of some sweet DS releases(FF3 and Castlevania Portrait of Ruin) there is more to hear from the Wii. Thing is it isn’t known yet what the Wii still has in store. So I thought I’d throw some of my ideas and musings up here and see if I have any idea what I’m talking about as the Wii progresses and grows.

A quick side note before I start blabbing about the future of the Wii. I did pick up Excite Truck and as it turns out its amazingly fun. I plan on picking up a couple of the steering wheels in the next week or so and see if that doesnt fix my issue with the whole turning vs. tipping thing I’ve been doing. More on that some other time.

Ok so there are a couple of things I want to address. The first is the capabilities and future of the Wii as related to software. The Wii is obviously not done on the software end. There have been 3 or 4 updates since launch. Two of which ran right when I pulled it out of the box. The Wii News and Weather channels still arnt up(as of sunday evening) and the console is lacking some things that the other consoles are bringing to the table out of the box that we all know the Wii is capable of but just doesnt have. Here’s a short list. DVD play back, mp3 player, video player, cd player, wired network support and finally one of the biggest things is HD support.

So DVD play back is sort of a given. I mean if the thing can play the video involved in a video game cinematic then it shouldn’t have to much trouble handling some mpeg2 decode. Which brings me to the HD support. This thing isn’t running the same video processor as the gamecube. People who say its just a repackaged cube like to ignore the fact that it does in fact have updated guts. If the built in video processor in my girl friends $400 laptop can handle dvd play back then the custom designed video processor for a gaming console most definately can handle it. It’s just the software end of things that has been left short. I believe the same goes for true HD. Give it a few more patches and updates and you’ll see the Wii really shine.

All of that listed above is coming. If not officially then unofficially through some hacking. Mark my words. The Wii wasn’t code named the revolution for no good reason.
